Now for SoM, I had only played about 4 or 5 story mission, a few of which were mainly those tutorial style, but already wiped out all 5 chiefs and every captain along with having all tiers of upgrades unlocked. Even with tier 2, I was able to stop stank gum in only like 4 hits and that was almost the end of the game.
Once you get the tier 3 electrospears you're unstoppable. With Max, since you can instantly modify your car you can travel with no armor or plow so you have max speed and handling but then pop it on as soon as you're about to go into battle. There comes a point you're so OP that you're just a monster. For Mad Max the car fights were great as was capt/warchief hunting in SoM but both suffer from similar. I am very forgiving for the massive liberties they take with the franchise in terms of things that cannot happen in Tolkien's world but even then the whole thing is boring and flat. Shadow of Mordor is all these things (minus vehicles) and more, by the end you're a demigod on the battlefield, the nemesis system is great and again the look and feel of it is brillantbut I find the plot and characters really boring, and I'm a pretty big fan of Lord of the Rings. Fighting on foot is really crunchy and good at first but gets very repetitive fast, I wish they'd done more with enemy variety or something, its easily the weakest part of the game. Go to first person view driving and do vehicle combat that way, its amazing. I like the characters, car combat is great once you've got a few upgrades and the whole atmosphere and look of the game is fantastic. I'm playing through Mad Max right now and I wasn't convinced to play it through at first but once I got into the rhythm of upgrading and taking down camps I gotta say its grown on me a lot. Doesn't sound great, but I am really loving it so far. Really it reminds me of Assassin's Creed, Mad Max, and a generic hack and slash game. Also, you have this helper which reminds me so much of Chumbucket. I would suggest getting the execution addition because not only does it help you cut down the opposition but does it make for so many "OH SHIT" moments. It's a lot easier if you go stealth, but you can still mop the floor if you go into fuck it mode. I kind of see this as a fantasy version of the MGS series. Having them comment on how you almost killed them before is very smart designing.
Plus the fun/incedibly infuriating part of some that ressurect. The captains are incredibly fun since each have their own strengths and weaknesses. I've captured all towers but only finished 2 of the story missions. I'm only a few hours in, so take this as much. For Mad Max I completed all the projects of the first area so I could fast travel to there and waited until being almost fully upgraded before doing the same to the rest. I prefer to complete as many side missions as I can before pursuing the main story. With that spoiler said, once you do, and get it fully upgraded, it's a fucking blast. Part of which is why you don't get the big chief (V8) until pretty much the very end of the main story. The main story really does do a good job at nodding to the original movie. Mad Max did a great job at copying it to their post-apocalyptic world.
I think the Arkham series has one of the absolute best fighting mechanics I've experienced.
Eventually you unlock additional functions, but it still boils down to hitting 2-3 buttons when prompted. On foot, the combat really resembles the Arkham series in that you mash punch with the occasional counter. Big note here is that I think this game did a really good job at still making it fun.
It's a typical sandbox game where there is a substantial amount of grinding to upgrade and explore. With SoM I'm about 5 hours in.Īs a start, Mad Max is a really fun game. So to preface this, I've completed Mad Max to 0 threat in all territories and fully upgraded character and car plus finished all missions.
